PIEROGIE JOE’S HOMEMADE PIEROGIES
It all started in the 1970s when joe Stanavidge and his brother, Ed, went to small festivals, church picnics and other events with their “Mr. Softee” ice cream truck. Later in the early 80s, Joe became known as the “candy man” when he began selling cotton candy and other goodies at larger venues like the Bloomsburg Fair.
Competition was fierce, so Joe decided to rely on his Polish background and try his hand at making poerogies.
In 1987 he took his small handmade stand and went back to the Bloomsburg Fair with his new treat with butter and onions. Along with the help of his wife, Eloise “Wezzie” Stanavage, the business took off. The rest is history.
Now known as “Pierogie Joe” all over the region, Joe keeps himself busy with fairs and events all season, plus he sells pierogies to people anytime, especially around Christmas and Easter.
In addition to pierogies, Joe sells homemade halushki. Joe got many of his Polish recipes from his family, namely his mother and grandmother.
